Discover the Delta Foundation is seeking an Inaugural Interim Executive Director
Inaugural Interim Executive Director
Education Center, Rio Vista, CA
Six-month contract with the option to renew
Opportunity to help establish a Delta Education Center in partnership with an existing board of directors as well as with an ever-expanding number of Delta citizens, nonprofit groups, foundations, and government bodies.
The inaugural interim executive director will:
Report to Discover the Delta Foundation Board (Board) at monthly Board meetings online.
Work with Board to implement the Mission Statement, including the layout of the new building and inaugural programs.
Identify and facilitate partnerships with groups, organizations, agencies, governments, businesses, and others to build support and funding opportunities.
Plan and commence an enhanced membership program that promises to increase funds and general support.
Chart and begin to implement a robust fundraising program.
Work to establish a protocol for recruiting, training, and overseeing volunteers who will assist with fundraising, membership, and general programming.
Regularize online updates for multiple publics via an existing website and additional online communications.
Take leadership and delegate tasks required for the preparation of grant requests.
Cooperate with the Board to facilitate the construction of the building on the current site.
Develop a preliminary schedule and assignment of responsibilities for the establishment of displays, rotating exhibits, and programs.
Education
Preference will be given to candidates with degrees in the following fields:
Education
Business
Environment
Nonprofit management
Or equivalent areas of emphasis
Experience
Knowledge of the following is particularly valued:
Fundraising
Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
Recreation
Farming
Small businesses and business groups
Grant Writing
Salary
The position is half-time for the first six months with an option to renew. As funds are raised, the position is slated to become full-time, permanent, with enhanced salary and benefits. The position carries a salary of $24,000 for six months or $4,000 a month for 20 hours a week or a half-time commitment. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be able to work at home to accomplish most assigned tasks. The inaugural interim director will be given preference in the selection of the permanent position. Benefits will be negotiated once the position becomes permanent.

About Discover The Delta Foundation
Discover the Delta Foundation is a nonprofit founded in 2006 committed to opening and managing a Delta Education Center in the Delta. The project location is near Highway 12 and 160, in Sacramento County, easily accessible to all parts of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The property has been purchased and a pre-fab building secured. A planning grant application to facilitate the construction of the building is being submitted to the Delta Conservancy.
